NYC Event: Goblintown: Really Hard Driving Game Union Square $10,000 Challenge on 4/20

NYC Event: Goblintown: Really Hard Driving Game Union Square $10,000 Challenge on 4/20

TLDR: If you beat Goblintown’s new video game on your first try, you get $10,000. Come give it a try in Union Square from 4/20 to 4/22. We’ve resurrected the McGoblin Burger truck (now rigged with gaming consoles) for a three-day pop-up in front of the Dazed Cannabis store to give the community the first chance to beat Goblintown: Really Hard Driving Game. You'll get to try the game before anyone else, get free goodies on 4/20, and score a bunch of other giveaways.

It has been a minute since our last IRL event for Goblintown. From the Chelsea underground concert event with Steve Aoki in June 2022 to the Art Basel Abandoned Macy’s in Miami appropriately named Fart Basel, in-person events have always been a Goblintown speciality.

We are excited to bring back the in-person soiree on April 20th (yes 4/20) until April 22nd in anticipation for our flagship video game coming out in early access at the end of the month!

Some quick lore in case you're new here:

One of the things Goblintown was most well-known for in the earliest days was the IRL McGoblin Burger Truck. One of my biggest regrets is not continuing its operations in NYC from June 2022 on, when we first introduced it to the community.

We tried to rectify that mistake last year in April by bringing back the truck. That lasted about 6 weeks until we separated operations from the owner of the truck. In the separation from the truck owner / burger chef, we got the truck.

Not being in the food truck business, the truck sat in Brooklyn and became a well-documented spectacle for the next few months. Then we had a genius idea to gift the truck to one of our favorite community members, Icy, who had a dream to make a Goblin Ice Cream Truck business. We worked with him to make a proposal to the community fund DAO to give him startup money to get his Ice Cream business off the ground.

The proposal passed and we got the truck down to Florida where he lives. Before the trek, the physical massive burger on the top of the truck had to be removed and was left in Brooklyn. It has since been spotted in the background at parties of various Instagram and Snapchat stories. The truck made it down to Florida and that’s when the issues really picked up a notch. The truck had regular mechanical issues and Icy struggled to get them fixed. The inside was meant for burgers and was greasy to a point that was unusable for ice cream. Nevertheless, Icy tried to make it work, putting more and more work into the truck.

Then two things happened: first being that the team at Goblintown started working on Goblintown: Really Hard Driving Game where the McGoblin Burger Truck was the focal character in the game. We regretted losing our physical truck, even if for good reasons.

Then the second thing happened. Icy went to Japan for vacation and upon his return, discovered that the truck was unable to start because rats had eaten all the internal wiring. Nice! Icy had enough and contacted me to catch up. On that phone call we realized he needed to get a different truck to fulfill his Goblin Ice Cream dream and we needed to have the truck back for the next chapter of Goblintown.

We figured out how to get it back to NYC, but not before some vandals had their way with the truck in Florida, taking off the bone and smashing the windows. They were nice enough to leave the bone resting on the driver's door– adding a little more Goblintown lore to this Iliadic journey the truck has taken.

Then the truck came back to NYC, where it continued to have its issues, including getting damaged in transport and then getting towed by New York Sanitation for not having wheels or a license plate. It has had a wild ride.

Quick lore over. But what are we actually doing with it?

Glad you asked and also didn’t read the TLDR.

We are gutting the truck, ripping out the insides and making an incredible mobile Gaming Rig (multiple rigs). From here on out, the IRL McGoblin Burger truck is getting out of the food delivery business and getting into the gaming business. It starts on 4/20 in Union Square in front of Dazed Cannabis (and will stay there till EOD 4/22).

At the NYC event, we will be running a contest to find the best gamers in the city. If you can beat the Goblintown: Really Hard Driving Game on your first try, we will give you $10,000 on the spot. Don’t worry if you can’t, we also have mini-game competitions that will regularly dole out prizes. We will have a bunch of gaming rigs so hopefully people don’t need to wait in line too long. There will be free merch, prizes, and goodies galore.

For the NYC event, there is no need to RSVP, just come on by and strap in.

After NYC, the truck will travel to Boston for Pax East and then to Dallas for DreamHack. The McGoblin Burger monstrosity will be INSIDE the conventions and on the exhibition floor at both events. I can only imagine what spectacle it will be compared to other stations. How do you not walk over to this thing?

The actual game will be coming out at the end of April in public early access.
